New Geothermal Technology Aims to Produce Clean Energy in Germany

The New York Times has featured Eavor’s work in Germany and the promise of closed‑loop geothermal.

Reporter Stanley Reed visited our Geretsried project site, where an Eavor-Loop™ system circulates fluid through deep, sealed wells to capture heat directly from surrounding rock—without the need for naturally occurring geothermal reservoirs. The system does not require fracking, uses minimal water, and delivers highly predictable output.

The article highlights why this approach is gaining attention as a pathway to firm, low‑carbon energy. As Heymi Bahar, senior analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA) noted: “If this technology is proven and commercially viable, it’s a complete game-changer everywhere in the world.”

The Geretsried project is the world’s first commercial‑scale deployment of an Eavor-Loop, and an important step in understanding how closed‑loop geothermal can contribute to future power and heat systems.
